I just finished a great book call Endure by Alex Hutchins. In it, he breaks down the different aspects of endurance including oxygen consumption, fuel, and water. Just as important is how the brain affects endurance. It seems to have protective circuitry making its well-meaning your fiercest opponent. But there is more in there if you are willing to believe it.
